Ghats
Considering the nearness to the Ganges, it is evident that a place like Varanasi would be infested with numerous Ghats. Most of these places are made use of by the people for their daily baths in the holy river. On other occasions, they do perform yajnas and cremations also. The Ghats are quite popular among several people and seem to be overwhelmed by people during pilgrim seasons. Each of these Ghats is popular among the people for some specific reason.

The most popular Ghats in Varanasi are Dashashwamedh Ghat, Harishchandra Ghat and Manikarnika Ghat. Each of these places has a unique story told about them and can be narrated like this:
-
The Dashashwamedh Ghat is by far the most popular Ghat in Varanasi. However, it is exceptionally crowded with people, who would try to mark benefits from the tourists. The main attraction of this Ghat is the yajna conducted by few priests every day to appease Lord Shiva, the Agni, the Sun, River Ganges and the entire universe. The full stretch nearby the banks becomes filled with diyas, providing a spectacular sight to behold.
-
Harishchandra Ghat is a place, where regular cremations of dad bodies occur at frequent intervals throughout the day. According to myth, this was the place where King Harishchandra had to work as a slave after being bought.
-
Even the Manikarnika Ghat, keeps up with the previous one in the matter of cremation. Moreover by its side, there are several dharmashalas and old homes, where the elderly stay to spend the remaining half of their lives.
