Religious Attractions
As it is, Varanasi is one of the religious places in India, which attracts numerous pilgrims from across the nation to come and gather religious piety here. It is very rare that the place is not crowded with tourists, as most of the attractions here at Varanasi are of the religious nature except that of the art and cultural heritage. Most of the places may be visited right on foot and each of them would have a story of its own to tell the visitors.
Being adjacent to the river Ganges, it is quite natural that the city would have several banks or Ghats, as they are referred to in India. Some of the most popular Ghats are the Dashashwamedh Ghat, popular for the daily yajnas held here along with the Manikarnika Ghat, Harishchandra Ghat and many others. The Scindia Ghat, Lalita Ghat, Tulsi Ghat and the Mana Mandir Ghat are also quite popular tourist attractions of this place. Each of them is unique in their own style and can be thought of as a place for the congregation of priests.
It is but natural for a place like that of Varanasi to have numerous temples, most of which are that of Lord Shiva. The most famous temple at Varanasi is that of the Kashi Vishwanath temple, where God Shiva is said to have stayed in person. It is extremely popular religious haunt of pilgrims, who also frequent the Durga temple, which is now known as the Monkey temple, owing to the population of monkeys there.
Overall, you would never repent to have come over here, and would cherish the flourishing center of Hindu mythology.
