Varanasi
Situated on the banks of River Ganges, Varanasi has become the religious haunt of several traditions, which include the Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. The Ganges being considered holy by the Indian people provides a different atmosphere to the place or city. There are several things that may attract an individual to go and visit Varanasi, considering the fact that this place has had various vital roles throughout the Indian history. Especially the art and culture of the Indian tradition has been greatly gifted by Varanasi and its people over the ages.

Culture and Art
The place retains it cultural and religious faith through the holy Ganges flowing by its side, which attracts several individuals. Moreover, Gautama Buddha, founder of Buddhism, had preached his first sermon at Sarnath, which is located adjacent to Varanasi or Kashi. Majority of the cultural tradition among the Hindus have been laid down from this place itself and to add on to the credits, the artwork has been unique. Most popular are the Varanasi sarees along with the handicrafts, wooden items and Jari work.

Music and Literature
The place has been the patron for the Benares Gharana of music and has produced great maestros of Indian music starting from late Ustad Bismillah Khan, Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pandit Ravi Shankar. The classical music along with the dance performances developed here has been entertaining the Indian folks over the ages. Moreover, great writers like Munshi Premchand, Jai Shankar Prasad and others happen to have originated from here. Even, Tulsidas had written his Ramacharitamanas in this place.
Thus, it would be a shame to consider a place like that of Varanasi, any less than the womb that gave birth to several cultural and artistic traits of the nation.
